The mechanism of this drug is fairly complex. The active ingredient in Cialis is a phosphodiesterase type 5 inhibitor. This means it inhibits the production of phosphodiesterase type 5 in the body. Phosphodiesterase type 5 interacts with another chemical in the body, called cyclic GMP. Cyclic GMP relaxes smooth muscles and widens the blood vessels in the penis, allowing sufficient blood flow for a firm erection. By inhibiting the production of phosphodiesterase type 5, more cyclic GMP will be present in the body and erections will be easier to achieve.
In simpler words, Cialis helps improve blood flow to the penis, which restores the ability of the penis to function normally.
How is it Used?
This medication comes in tablet form and may be taken with or without food.
Cialis is typically used either as needed or taken daily in a smaller dose. Either way dosage will be determined by a physician and may be adjusted over the course the treatment.
When used as needed, it should be taken about 30 minutes before sexual activity. The medication often remains in the bloodstream for about 36 hours, and may remain effective for the duration of that time. For this reason it should not be taken more than once every 24 hours.

Adverse Effects:
Most side effects are mild and stop after a few hours, including headache, indigestion, and a stuffy or runny nose.
A few men experience back or muscle aches several hours after taking Cialis.
In very rare cases some men have experienced sudden vision or hearing loss. Any change in vision or hearing while taking Cialis should be brought to the attention of a physician immediately.
Erections lasting more than 4 hours also warrant medical attention. Prolonged erections can damage the penis and be extremely painful.
Patients should read the information provided with this medication for a complete list of possible adverse effects and interactions prior to taking Cialis or any other medication.
