Lamisil Spray (terbinafine) is a topical treatment for fungal infections on the skin. Just one application a day alleviates the itching, burning and discomfort associated with fungal infections while destroying the invading fungi.
The unique spray application allows for easy treatment without messy creams or needing to touch the infected skin, which can spread the infection. The spray bottle works equally well when held upright or upside down, for easy application to any area. The fluid covers the skin with ease, even in very hairy areas, and quickly dries to a nearly invisible film. Fast, easy and virtually mess-free, Lamisil Spray takes the hassle out of treating fungal infections.
Of course, a spray-on antifungal may not be everyone's preferred choice. Fortunately Lamisil makes a range of products to suit every need:
All Lamisil products contain terbinafine, which is among the fastest-acting fungicides available, clearing up infections 1 to 3 weeks faster than alternative products. Terbinafine also requires only one daily application, while other antifungal ointments typically require 2 or 3 applications per day.
Getting the Most from Lamisil Spray
Lamisil Spray can be used to treat most fungal skin infections, such as:
The product should not be applied directly to mucous membranes, open wounds or skin that has a viral or bacterial infection.
Affected skin should be thoroughly cleansed and dried prior to applying Lamisil Spray. Then simply spray the infected area and surrounding healthy skin until wet. The spray should dry in just a few moments. If using Lamisil Spray in areas prone to moisture or frequently rubbed on clothing or skin, such as the groin or armpits, or in between fingers, toes or buttocks, the medication can be covered with gauze to help hold it in place and prevent it getting on clothing or other materials. Do not cover with airtight dressings.
Relief from itching and burning is felt almost instantly. The infection should noticeably begin to subside after just a day or two of use. Symptoms are usually cleared up completely in under a week; if needed treatment can continue for longer, as long as the condition continues to improve. Ideally treatment should continue for several days after all symptoms are gone, to ensure reinfection does not occur.
Care should be taken to avoid reinfection by other routes as well; preventing reinfection is often the most difficult aspect of treating fungal infections. Clothing, towels, bedding, nail clippers and other materials that come into contact with infected skin should be cleaned frequently to prevent reinfection and prevent spread of the fungus to others. Hands should always be washed after touching infected skin.
Precautions & Adverse Effects
Because Lamisil Spray does not penetrate the skin fully to enter the bloodstream, serious side effects are extremely unlikely. Some patients do experience mild side effects at the application site, including:
These symptoms typically pass quickly and are only cause for concern if severe or persistent.
Check with a doctor before using Lamisil Spray if taking other antifungal medications, if pregnant or breastfeeding, or if administering the spray to patients under 12 years of age.
