Cetaphil

What is Celaphil used for?

Cetaphil is the brand name for a family of lotions and cleansers.  You can get Cetaphil therapeutic hand cream, Cetaphil daily moisturizing cream, Cetaphil daily facial moisturizer, and others.

Cetaphil Cleanser:

Cetaphil was formulated and first distributed by dermatologists.  Cetaphil is a non-irritating cleanser that can be used by people with sensitive skin.  Cetaphil is non-comedogenic, non-alkaline cleanser, unlike soaps.  Cetaphil moisturizes as it cleans.  It can be used anywhere on the body, and Cetaphil is gentle enough for a baby's skin. Apply liberally to the skin and gently rub to cleanse.  There is little lathering as you would have with soap.  Remove excess Cetaphil with a soft rag, but leave a thin layer on the skin for continued moisturizing.

Cetaphil Lice Treatment:

Cetaphil can be used to kill head lice by the smothering technique.  Apply small amounts of Cetaphil to the head and hair beginning at the nape of the neck.  Continue adding more Cetaphil and working it in until all the hair and scalp are saturated.  Allow the Cetaphil to set on the hair for two minutes and then comb it out.

Wipe the excess Cetaphil off the comb to make it easier to dry the hair.  Use a lice comb to remove the nits and rinse into a bowl.  Continue combing out the Cetaphil until you don't see any nits, then blow dry the hair.

Cetaphil should stay on the hair and scalp for eight hours or overnight.  Then rinse the hair with a solution of mild soap and vinegar to loosen any nits that might be left.  You should then shampoo out the Cetaphil with hair shampoo to clean the hair and scalp.

Repeat the Cetaphil process in seven days, and then again in another seven days to get out all the lice that hatch after the adults are removed.

Cetaphil Reviews:

A sampling of reviews from a dozen or more publications gives Cetaphil a better than 80% satisfaction rate.  People either rate Cetaphil highly, or rate it very poorly.  Of the dissenters, nearly all had an allergic reaction to Cetaphil.  Of those who did not have rashes or other allergic reactions, most rated Cetaphil at least 4 out of a possible 5 stars.

Cetaphil Ingredients:

Cetaphil contains:

Cetyl Alcohol- a fatty alcohol used as a skin-softening ingredient,

Sodium Lauryl sulfate- an irritating cleanser for producing lather,

Propylene Glycol- a preservative and it allows other ingredients to penetrate the skin,

Butylparaben, Propylparaben, and Methylparaben- these help other ingredients penetrate, the skin and they are gentle for people with sensitive skin,

Stearyl Alcohol- another fatty alcohol,

and water.

Cetaphil products have varying SPF ratings for protection from the sun.  Because it moisturizes too, this would indicate it is a good product to use anytime a person is in the sun.
