Blis K12 Throat Guard Boost is a unique product designed to naturally support upper respiratory tract health using beneficial microorganisms, or probiotics. This treatment is safe for use in patients age 3 and up, and can be used while pregnant or breastfeeding.
This is an intensive, 3-day treatment that rapidly boosts defenses against the harmful bacteria that cause infections in the mouth and throat. The product includes two parts:
The probiotic used in Blis K12 Throat Guard Boost is a particular strain of Streptococcus salivarius; the K12 strain. While S. salivarius naturally populates the upper respiratory tracts of all humans starting just hours after birth, the K12 strain occurs naturally only in a small percent of the population. Both children and adults who have high levels of S. salivarius K12 are very resistant to acquiring upper respiratory tract infections and, when they do come down with such infections, tend to have less severe symptoms and recover faster.
S. salivarius K12 provides two benefits; one, like probiotics taken to improve gut health, sheer numbers can help crowd out harmful bacteria. More significantly, S. salivarius K12 produces Bacteriocin-Like-Inhibitory-Substances (BLIS), proteins that inhibit the growth of other, similar types of bacteria---such as those that cause strep throat. This combination makes it very difficult for harmful bacteria to thrive in the mouth or throat.
The chlorhexidine mouthwash included in Blis K12 Throat Guard Boost destroys bacteria in the mouth and throat. This is a potent mouthwash only available by prescription or pharmacist approval in many areas; it is often given to patients prior to oral surgery to help ensure bacteria do not enter the bloodstream.
The mouthwash and lozenges are used together to help populate the upper respiratory tract with S. salivarius K12. The 30 ml of mouthwash represents 3 10 ml doses, while the 12 lozenges are divided into 4 daily doses:
It's important wait 2 hours after using the mouthwash before taking a lozenge; otherwise the mouthwash will simply destroy the S. salivarius K12. Ideally lozenges will be taken after food. Avoiding drinking hot beverages immediately after consuming a lozenge.
In otherwise healthy patients there are no side effects associated with Blis K12 Throat Guard Boost. Since S. salivarius occurs naturally in most humans, the product is suitable for use while pregnant or breastfeeding and in all ages. Use is not advised in children under age 3 as they may be unable to follow instructions regarding mouthwash use and lozenges may present a choking hazard. Individuals with a compromised immune system, or who are taking medications to suppress immune function, should discuss potential risks with a doctor before using Blis K12 Throat Guard Boost.
Lozenges are also available in larger quantities and without the mouthwash for daily maintenance of S. salivarius K12 levels. Blis K12 Throat Guard Daily includes 30 lozenges while Blis K12 Throatguard Lozenges contains 16 lozenges. All Blis K12 lozenges are available in strawberry or vanilla flavors; the mouthwash is peppermint flavored.
