Beconase Aqueous Nasal Spray is a brand name of the steroid, beclomethasone. Beconase belongs to the group of steroids called corticosteroids. Beconase is no relation to the group of steroids taken by athletes to improve their performance.
As a steroid, Beconase inhibits the inflammation of the nasal passages. Most patients are prescribed Beconase to treat nasal symptoms most often associated with seasonal allergies and sinus troubles. Beconase reduces inflammation and irritation of the nasal passages, thus relieving many of the uncomfortable symptoms often associated with allergies, hay fever and sinus problems.
Beconase is also prescribed for additional nasal ailments; such as preventing nasal polyps from reoccurring after their surgical removal.
Before you begin using Beconase, it is important that you inform your physician of any additional nasal medications or steroids that you are currently using; as well as any herbal supplements and additional medications you may be taking.
Do not use Beconase if you are currently suffering from any kind of infection; viral, fungal or bacterial. Beconase can hinder your bodys ability to fight the infection.
It is not yet known whether Beconase can affect an unborn child or whether Beconase is secreted into breast milk. Therefore, if you are pregnant or nursing, please consult with your doctor before starting or continuing the use of Beconase. Beconase is not approved for use in children under the age of 6.
You should use Beconase daily as prescribed by your Doctor. It can take a few days before you experience the paramount benefits of Beconase. Therefore, it is integral that you continue to use your medication as directed by your Doctor or Pharmacist even after your symptoms have improved. Your Doctor will start you on the lowest dosage of Beconase that will relieve your symptoms. Usually this is two sprays in each nostril, twice a day. As your symptoms decrease you may consult with your Doctor about lowering your dose to one spray in each nostril, twice a day.
Do not use a larger dose of Beconase without consulting your Doctor. If you miss a dose, take the next dose of Beconase at the appointed time. Do not double the dose if you miss one.
As with all medications, there are possible side effects with Beconase. Some of the more common side effects reported in 1 out of 100 people using Beconase include; dryness or pain in the throat and/or nose, an unpleasant smell or taste in mouth and nose, profuse nose bleeds and allergic reactions such as itching, redness and rashes.
Rare side effects include; pain in the eyes and/or blurred vision and severe allergic reactions, such as shortness of breath and swelling in the throat and on the face.

Beconase should be stored in a cool dry place, out of the reach of children; do not store Beconase above 30 degrees C or 86 degrees F. Do not use any single bottle of Beconase after it has been opened for more than 3 months
