Medicines have benefits and some have risks. Always read the label and use only as directed. If symptoms persist or you have side effects see your health professional. Brands and generics both contain the same active ingredient(s) and are medically equivalent. Some brands are marketed under different names by the same manufacturer depending on the country of origin. Images are provided as a reference only, the received medicine may vary in packaging, color, pill shape, etc, from one batch to the next. For an item marked "generic" any quality brand may be sent, however you will always receive the active ingredients ordered in the strength(s) ordered.
Pepcid (famotidine) is the original brand with the active ingredient famotidine, a histamine-2 blocker that works by lowering the volume of acid produced in the stomach.
PEPCID has three primary active ingredients to provide you with needed relief from occasional heartburn. PEPCID AC and PEPCID AC Original Strength and PEPCID AC Maximum Strength contain an H2 blocker that starts working in 15-30 minutes to help manage acid throughout the day or night.
PEPCID Complete is a combination of an antacid and an H2 blocker that starts neutralizing stomach acid in seconds, making it even more effective. It's best to begin treating heartburn as soon as possible.
Pepcid is the most widely prescribed acid reducer on the market. Pepcid is the original famotidine brand, and when taken as recommended, it has been a safe and efficient acid reducer for over 35 years. Pepcid is backed by more than 50 clinical trials and has been clinically proven to relieve heartburn.
Take this medication orally, with or without food, as prescribed by a doctor, typically once or twice a day. If medication is taken once a day, the patient should take it immediately before sleep.
The duration and dose of treatment are determined by the patient's medical condition and reaction to therapy. Dosage in children may be dependent on body weight. A doctor may prescribe other drugs (such as antacids) to treat the problem. Pay close attention to the doctor's recommendations. If they have any questions, they should speak with a doctor or pharmacist.
For patients to get the most out of this drug, they should take it daily and simultaneously every day for remembering purposes. Please do not raise the dose or take it more frequently than recommended. Stopping this medicine without a doctor's permission may cause the ulcer to heal more slowly.
If a patient is self-treating heartburn or acid indigestion with nonprescription famotidine, they should take one tablet with a glass of water as required or one tablet by mouth with a glass of water 15-60 minutes before eating or drinking foods that cause heartburn. Unless their doctor tells them otherwise, they should not take more than two pills in 24 hours or take it for more than 14 days in succession.
A patient may develop constipation, headache, or diarrhea. They should inform their doctor or pharmacist right away if any of these side effects continue or worsen.
If a patient develops any significant adverse effects, such as seizure, severe dizziness, fast/slow/irregular heartbeat, or fainting, they should seek medical treatment immediately.
This medication seldom causes a severe allergic response. However, if the patient detects any symptoms of a significant allergic reaction, such as extreme dizziness, problems breathing, a rash, itching/swelling (particularly of the face/throat/tongue/), medical attention should be sought immediately.
The list is not exhaustive of all possible negative consequences. Contact a doctor or pharmacist if a patient has any other side effects not listed above.
Some products require stomach acid to be efficiently absorbed by the body. Because famotidine reduces stomach acid, it may affect how effectively these medications perform. Atazanavir, delavirdine, dasatinib, some azole antifungals (such as ketoconazole, itraconazole ), and pazopanib are among the products impacted.
This medicine should not be used alongside other famotidine or H2 blocker medications (ranitidine, cimetidine, nizatidine).
Call medical response if someone has overdosed and is experiencing significant symptoms like passing out or having difficulties breathing.
If a patient forgets to take a dosage, they should do so as soon as they recall. If the next dosage is approaching, they should skip the missing dose and take the next dosage at the same time every day. To catch up, they should not increase the dose.
Store at room temperature, 77°F (25°C), away from light and moisture. Short-term storage at temperatures ranging from 59 to 86 degrees Fahrenheit (15 to 30 degrees Celsius) is acceptable.
Unless otherwise directed, do not flush medicines down the drain. When this product has expired, properly dispose of it. Contact a pharmacist or a local trash disposal business for additional information on securely disposing of this product.
