Medicines have benefits and some have risks. Always read the label and use only as directed. If symptoms persist or you have side effects see your health professional. Brands and generics both contain the same active ingredient(s) and are medically equivalent. Some brands are marketed under different names by the same manufacturer depending on the country of origin. Images are provided as a reference only, the received medicine may vary in packaging, color, pill shape, etc, from one batch to the next. For an item marked "generic" any quality brand may be sent, however you will always receive the active ingredients ordered in the strength(s) ordered.
Avomine (promethazine theoclate) is primarily used to reduce or eliminate symptoms of motion sickness, though it also has other relatively common applications, ranging from a sedative to an allergy treatment.
This product should not be used in children under 2 years of age. Children between 2 and 10 should use Avomine only with doctor instruction. Women who are pregnant or breast-feeding should speak with a trusted doctor about possible risks before starting treatment.
Leave Motion Sickness in the Dust with Avomine
Avomine is a simple solution for individuals who suffer from motion sickness, whether it be from automobiles, boats, air travel or other sources. Motion sickness is caused by disturbances in the middle ear, which then send signals to the "vomiting center" (yes, it's really called that!) of the brain which triggers nausea, vomiting, cold sweats, dizziness and similar symptoms. Avomine blocks the signals from reaching the vomiting center, thus eliminating or significantly reducing symptoms.
The medication is most widely available in tablet form. 25 mg is the standard dose, and no more than 4 tablets should be taken per day. Ideally tablets are taken at least 8 hours apart. Administration should be followed by drinking a full glass of water.
When the tablets are taken depends on whether Avomine is being used to prevent symptoms from developing or to alleviate symptoms already being experienced.
To prevent motion sickness:
To treat motion sickness in progress:
If taking Avomine to treat existing symptoms, effects should be noticeable in 15 to 30 minutes. The medication is effective for about 8 hours.
Treating Nausea from Other Sources
Avomine is also effective at preventing or alleviating nausea from sources other than motion sickness, including:
Administration is similar in all cases:
While some patients use Avomine long-term to treat nausea from a chronic condition, use should not exceed 7 consecutive days without discussing potential risks with a doctor.
Other Uses
The medication may be used in other scenarios; these are typically off-label uses and as such there are no formal dosage & administration guidelines. Avomine may be used:
Patients interested in Avomine for off-label uses should discuss dosage with a doctor.
Warnings & Side Effects
Like all medications there is a small risk of side effects from Avomine. Usually side effects are mild and not cause for concern, including:
Rarely some patients experience difficulty urinating while taking Avomine. Stop taking the medication if this side effect is severe enough to be disruptive.
Some patients are at greater risk of experiencing serious side effects, namely those who have:
The above conditions do not necessarily rule out Avomine use, but patients should discuss risks and possible side effects to be alert for with a doctor before initiating treatment.
Avomine can causes pronounced drowsiness in some individuals. Use caution until effects are known.
