Medicines have benefits and some have risks. Always read the label and use only as directed. If symptoms persist or you have side effects see your health professional. Brands and generics both contain the same active ingredient(s) and are medically equivalent. Some brands are marketed under different names by the same manufacturing country depending on the country of origin.

Accuretic is a combination of the angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitor quinapril and the thiazide diuretic hydrochlorothiazide, used together for the treatment of high blood pressure and heart failure.
Lowering blood pressure reduces the risk of fatal and nonfatal cardiovascular events, primarily strokes and myocardial infarctions. Control of high blood pressure can be part of comprehensive cardiovascular risk management, including:
In the majority of cases, it is only through managing diet, exercise, and other risk factors that put patients at increased risk of cardiovascular events that patients are able to stop taking medications like Accuretic. Unfortunately, however, the above are not always practical or enough to control high blood pressure; Accuretic can be taken for as long as needed when that is the case.
Dosage of Accuretic is dependent upon various factors, including race, and is best determined by a physician who can take into account personal variables. That said, patients are typically given 10/12.5 mg to 20/25 mg of quinapril/hydrochlorothiazide.
The medication comes in tablets, which are usually taken just once per day, with or without food according to personal preference. Once an effective dose is found, Accuretic may be taken for as long as it provides benefit, which often spans years.
Certain patients are at increased risk of experiencing severe side effects. Do not take Accuretic if there is any history of:
There are other, less dangerous medications that can be given as an alternative to Accuretic if the above apply.
Side effects from Accuretic are highly dose-dependent, hydrochlorothiazide in particular. The most commonly reported side effects are:
The above side effects are generally not cause for concerns unless severe enough to be disruptive, with the exception of chest pain, which always warrants medical attention. In most cases side effects will stop occurring with the first few weeks of treatment, as the body adjusts.
In elderly patients who have compromised renal function or volume depletion, co-administration of NSAIDs, including selective COX-2 inhibitors, with ACE inhibitors, including quinapril, may result in deterioration of renal function, including possible acute renal failure. These effects are usually reversible. Monitor renal function periodically in patients receiving quinapril and NSAID therapy.
The medication is known to interact with numerous other treatments, including over-the-counter varieties like cold or flu treatments. Always check with a doctor or pharmacist before mixing this or any other medication.
