Panadeine is suitable for asthmatics who are sensitive to aspirin or Non-steroidal anti-inflammatories. Panadeine is gluten, lactose and sugar free. Panadeine does not contain a calmative and is therefore less likely to cause drowsiness. Each tablet contains Paracetamol 500mg and Codeine Phosphate 8mg. Dosage: Adults and children over 12 years: 2 tablets every 3 to 4 hours with water as necessary up to a maximum of 8 tablets in 24 hours. Children 7-12 years, half to 1 tablet every 3 to 4 hours with water up to a maximum of 4 tablets in 24 hours. Panadeine is generally available in the form of:
Tablets: Flat, round, white tablets in packs of 12, 14, 50 and 100.
Caplets: Film-coated, capsule-shaped tablets available in packs of 24 and 48.
Rapid soluble tablets: Large, white-colored, round tablets available in packs of 20.
Each Panadeine tablet is typically made up of 500mg of Paracetamol and 8mg of Codeine Phosphate. Besides these primary ingredients, the inactive ingredients used in the making of Panadeine include:
Tablets: talc, pre-gelatinised maize starch, maize starch, potassium sorbate, stearic acid, povidone.
Caplets: Pre-gelatinised maize starch, maize starch, blue film coat, potassium sorbate, stearic acid, povidone, glycerol triacetate, hypromellose, titanium dioxide, carnuba wax.
Like the intake of most medication, dosages vary for adults and children. In general, the following doses of Panadeine are recommended :
Adults and children above 12 years: One to two tablets of Panadeine may be taken with fluid at an interval of 3-4 hours. However, care must be taken to ensure that the total consumption does not exceed 8 tablets in a time span of 24 hours.
Children between 7 and 12 years of age: Half to one tablet of Panadeine may be taken with fluid at an interval of 3-4 hours, but consumption must not exceed 4 tablets in a time span of 24 hours.
Side effects & precautions when taking Panadeine
Despite being such a common over the counter drug, some people experience side effects when using Panadeine. Common side effects observed include:

Dry mouth
Dizziness
Skin rashes

More often than not, these reactions can be controlled by stopping the medication; however, if symptoms persist, consult a medical practitioner immediately.
Panadeine should strictly be kept out of reach of children. Pregnant or nursing mothers are also advised to desist from taking Panadeine, unless under medical supervision.
