The History of Avene:
The village of AVENE is located in southern France, at the foot of the Cevennes Mountains – in the heart of the Orb valley. In 1736 a spring was discovered in AVENE.
The spring wells up from the depths of the earth at a temperature of 25.6 degrees Celsius, to gush clear and pure at the fountainhead. With a pH close to neutral, Avene thermal spring water is rich in silica and trace elements.
For centuries, the Thermal Spring Water has been used to treat serious skin problems such as burns, eczema, psoriasis and other conditions.
The Laboratories Dermatologiques AVENE deal with sensitive, allergic and hypersensitive skins.
The Avene Dermatological Treatment Centre is located at the Avene Thermal Spring in the South of France. Patients can only be referred there by Doctors or Dermatologists. The centre is dedicated entirely to dermatology.
Some of the conditions treated are:
Atopic dermatitis (and more generally, eczema) is the most frequent indication for the thermal cure; an average of 55 to 60% of all patients visiting the dermatological hydrotherapy centre suffer from the condition. Two thirds of them are children younger than 15 years of age.
Psoriasis is the second most popular indication, accounting for 30% of patients taking a thermal cure.
