Testogel (testosterone) is a gel containing the hormone testosterone, for use by men who do not produce enough of the hormone naturally.

Applying Testogel:

Each dose of Testogel comes in an individually wrapped sachet. Rarely a physician will recommend 10 mg (2 sachets) a day, but the normal dose is a single sachet. Never exceed 10 mg a day.

Application is easy and safe as long as handling guidelines are followed:

• Rub gel on clean, dry skin on the shoulders, upper arms, or abdomen. Do not rub it on any other part of the body, especially genitals -- skin may become irritated and painful.
• Allow the gel to dry for several minutes before putting on clothing.
• Testogel is flammable -- avoid smoking or open flames until the gel is dried.
• Wait several hours before showering or swimming to give the medication time to be absorbed.
• After application, wash hands and any residue on surfaces thoroughly. Dispose of open sachets carefully where children and pets will not come into contact with them.
• Even residual traces of Testogel on skin, fabrics, or other surfaces may negatively affect other members of the household. Avoid skin contact and carefully clean up after use.
• If women or children do come into contact with Testogel, immediately wash the area with soap and water.

Some improvement may be noticed just days after starting treatment, but on average it takes 3 to 4 months of use before hormone levels stabilize and the full effects are felt.

Safety Considerations:

It's very important to understand that this product may have severely negative effects if children or women come into contact with it. It is designed to be absorbed into the skin; touching any surface, including skin, which contains residual Testogel may be sufficient exposure to cause reactions -- from early onset of puberty in children to facial hair growth in women.

Extra care should be taken around pregnant or nursing women. Elevated testosterone levels can be extremely damaging to unborn or nursing babies.

Contraindications:

Some men are not good candidates for Testogel use, as there is a significantly higher risk of side effects:

• High risk of developing prostate cancer

• Liver, kidney, lung or heart disease
• Diabetes

Pregnant or nursing women should never use or handle Testogel under any circumstances.

Side Effects:

Otherwise healthy men rarely suffer adverse effects from using a testosterone gel. However, if reactions are severe or persistent, it should be brought to the attention of a physician before continuing treatment:

• Severe acne
• Hair loss
• Headache
• Insomnia
• Male breast tenderness
• Mood swings
